Southern Kyrgyzstan from Osh: 6 Days

Day 1. Arrival in Osh and Sulaiman-Too

• Osh — A southern Kyrgyzstan hub with an old urban core, Jayma Bazaar, airport and routes toward Alay, Arslanbob and the Pamir Highway.
• Sulaiman-Too — A sacred mountain in central Osh and UNESCO site with caves, museum context and city panoramas.

Driving: ~30 min

Overnight: Osh (guesthouse) — A guesthouse or mini-hotel double runs roughly 1,500–3,800 som (≈$17–43) (July 2026); stay central so the bazaar and Sulaiman-Too are walkable.

The airport is 15–20 minutes from the centre by taxi, or take marshrutka 107 toward the bazaar area. Give Sulaiman-Too 1–2 unhurried hours: the south-western entrance is the gentler way up, the cave museum closes on Mondays, and the reconstruction that started in 2026 may shut individual stairways and sections — check locally. In summer climb in the morning or toward sunset, since the bare rock heats up fast. End the day at Jayma Bazaar and dinner in the old town.

Day 2. Osh → Uzgen → Arslanbob

• Uzgen — A compact historical stop with Karakhanid minaret and mausoleums on the Osh-Jalal-Abad route.
• Arslanbob — A village by the famous walnut forest with homestays, waterfalls and seasonal walnut harvest.

Driving: ~3 h 30 min

Overnight: Arslanbob (guesthouse) — Book a simple homestay through the local CBT office: expect around 600–1,000 som (≈$7–11) per person with dinner and breakfast, and confirm current prices ahead (July 2026).

Uzgen sits right on the road to Arslanbob, so the honest logistics are to see it en route rather than backtrack to Osh for the night. The complex is about an hour from Osh; 1–2 hours cover the minaret, the mausoleums and the red-rice bazaar (entry 40 som ≈$0.50, July 2026) — the minaret staircase is steep, narrow and dark. Arslanbob is another ~2.5 hours via Jalal-Abad and Bazar-Korgon, with a rough final climb to the village. Public transport cannot copy this day: the direct Osh → Arslanbob marshrutka leaves once daily around 2 pm (200–370 som ≈$2–4 — sources differ, July 2026) and skips the Uzgen detour.

Day 3. Arslanbob — Waterfalls and Walnut Forest

• Arslanbob — A village by the famous walnut forest with homestays, waterfalls and seasonal walnut harvest.

Overnight: Arslanbob (guesthouse)

A day with no transfers. The classic loop links the Small Waterfall, Panorama Hill and a walk in the walnut forest; the Big Waterfall trail is longer and rockier, and slippery after rain. Small local fees may be charged at the waterfalls, so carry small cash. Take a CBT guide for longer walks or horse trips; dress modestly in the village, and during the walnut harvest (late September – October) stay off family plots unless invited.

Day 4. Arslanbob → Osh

• Osh — A southern Kyrgyzstan hub with an old urban core, Jayma Bazaar, airport and routes toward Alay, Arslanbob and the Pamir Highway.

Take one more forest or Panorama walk in the morning, then drop back to Osh via Bazar-Korgon — about three hours. Use the evening to set up the Alay leg: withdraw cash (ATMs beyond Osh are unreliable) and confirm the yurt and the car to the lake through CBT Sary-Mogol or your driver. The museums by Sulaiman-Too and the old-town teahouses fill the city evening nicely.

Day 5. Osh → Sary-Mogol → Tulpar-Kul

• Sary-Mogol — An Alay Valley base with Trans-Alay views and logistics for Tulpar-Kul and Achik-Tash.
• Tulpar-Kul — High lakes above Sary-Mogol, with yurt camps, Lenin Peak views and easy Alay Valley walks.

Driving: ~5 h

Overnight: Tulpar-Kul (yurt camp) — A yurt with dinner and breakfast runs about 1,000–1,500 som (≈$11–17) per person (July 2026); nights hover near freezing even in summer.

Start early: Sary-Mogol is ~4 hours away — the Pamir Highway, the switchbacks of Taldyk Pass (3,615 m), first views of the Trans-Alay wall and a final ~30 km of valley gravel. Have lunch in the village and call at CBT: they arrange a car to the lake (1,500 som ≈$17 per vehicle one way, July 2026) if yours is not up to the track; about another hour brings you to the yurts at ~3,500 m. It is your first night at altitude — take it easy, drink more water and keep a warm layer handy. Farther up the valley lie Achik-Tash and Lenin Peak Base Camp: continuing there needs a border-zone permit, the lake itself does not (July 2026).

Day 6. Tulpar-Kul → Osh, Fly to Bishkek

• Tulpar-Kul — High lakes above Sary-Mogol, with yurt camps, Lenin Peak views and easy Alay Valley walks.
• Osh — A southern Kyrgyzstan hub with an old urban core, Jayma Bazaar, airport and routes toward Alay, Arslanbob and the Pamir Highway.

Driving: ~5 h

Give the morning to a walk around the lakes with Lenin Peak in its best light, but leave by noon: the return to Osh is the same ~5 hours, and the gravel stretch slows noticeably after rain. Osh → Bishkek flights run daily from 2,700–3,900 som (≈$31–45), under an hour in the air (July 2026). Book an evening departure with a road buffer — or skip the race, add a night in Osh and fly out in the morning.
