Kel-Suu is one of Naryn Region's most dramatic but difficult places. It is a high-altitude lake in the southeast of the region near the Kyrgyz-Chinese border, in the hard-to-reach Kokshaal-Too area. Safety
Kel-Suu requires a border permit, an experienced driver and readiness for fords, swampy sections, no signal and abrupt weather. Do not go without a confirmed permit, fuel buffer, warm clothing, offline maps and a local check on the lake's water level: it can change significantly and sometimes drains underground. Even in summer this is around 3,500 m, where cold, wind and snow are possible.
