Naryn is the administrative and practical centre of its region. For travellers, it is less a weekend destination than the useful base before southern routes: Tash-Rabat, Kel-Suu, Chatyr-Kul, Salkyn-Tor and Inner Tian Shan roads. This is where to sleep, withdraw cash, buy supplies, find a driver and check road conditions. In town you have guesthouses, cafes, a bazaar, ATMs and the CBT office; outside Naryn, shops, signal and easy help fade quickly on the roads toward Kel-Suu, Tash-Rabat and the high valleys. Public transport links Naryn with Bishkek, Kochkor and At-Bashy by marshrutka and shared taxi, but leave early because vehicles depart when full. There is no regular public transport to Kel-Suu, Tash-Rabat or yurt camps: plan on an arranged driver, often a 4WD, and for Kel-Suu or several border valleys, a paper border-zone permit arranged in advance.
