Naryn, Son-Kul and Tash-Rabat in 5 Days

Day 1. Kochkor → Son-Kul

• Kochkor — A practical hub on the road from Bishkek toward Naryn and Son-Kul, used for transport, yurt-camp bookings, horse trips and felt-work workshops.
• Son-Kul Lake — A high alpine lake and summer jailoo in Naryn Region, with yurt camps, horses, open pasture and access over seasonal mountain passes.

Driving: ~3 h 30 min

Overnight: Son-Kul Lake (yurt camp) — Two nights in one camp preserve a full lake day without changing yurts; reserve the stay and meals before climbing to the plateau.

Use Kochkor for cash, supplies and a final check on the vehicle, yurt booking and Kalmak-Ashuu road. The lake approach crosses a dirt pass, so high clearance is preferable and rain can slow the drive. Keep the first evening gentle at roughly 3,000 metres.

Day 2. A Full Day at Son-Kul

• Son-Kul Lake — A high alpine lake and summer jailoo in Naryn Region, with yurt camps, horses, open pasture and access over seasonal mountain passes.

Overnight: Son-Kul Lake (yurt camp)

Keep this day for the shore and open jailoo; arrange any horse ride through the camp and match it to your experience. Weather shifts fast, signal is patchy and summer nights are cold. Boil or filter lake water before drinking it.

Day 3. Son-Kul → Kochkor → Naryn

Driving: ~5 h 30 min

Overnight: Naryn (guesthouse) — A simple bed with breakfast runs about 800–1,500 som (≈$9–17) per person (July 2026); book ahead in peak season.

Descend by the checked Kalmak-Ashuu route, then continue on pavement through Kochkor to Naryn. It is a long transfer day, so do not pair it with a morning horse ride. In Naryn, withdraw cash, refuel and confirm the Tash-Rabat driver because no scheduled service reaches the valley.

Day 4. Naryn → Koshoy-Korgon → Tash-Rabat

• Naryn — A mountain regional capital on the Naryn River, used as a base for Tash-Rabat, At-Bashy, Kel-Suu and Inner Tian Shan routes.
• Koshoy-Korgon — Ruins of a mud-brick fortress near At-Bashy with a nearby museum and natural pairing with Tash-Rabat.
• Tash-Rabat — A stone caravanserai high in the Kara-Koyun valley, one of Naryn Region's strongest historical detours and a natural stop near At-Bashy.

Driving: ~3 h

Overnight: Tash-Rabat (yurt camp) — Simple camps with meals run roughly 1,500–2,000 som (≈$17–23) per person (July 2026); bring cash and warm clothing.

Walk the exposed mud-brick ruins at Koshoy-Korgon; current museum hours and fees remain unconfirmed. Continue to Tash-Rabat, allowing extra vehicle margin and time on the rough final dirt section after rain. Caravanserai entry is an indicative 100–150 som (≈$1–2) per person (July 2026).

Day 5. Tash-Rabat → Naryn

• Tash-Rabat — A stone caravanserai high in the Kara-Koyun valley, one of Naryn Region's strongest historical detours and a natural stop near At-Bashy.
• Naryn — A mountain regional capital on the Naryn River, used as a base for Tash-Rabat, At-Bashy, Kel-Suu and Inner Tian Shan routes.

Driving: ~2 h

Use the morning for a short valley walk, but do not continue toward Chatyr-Kul without checking its separate border-zone permit. With no reliable signal in the valley, confirm the return car the night before. The drive back to Naryn takes about two hours.
