Semyonovka Gorge

Semyonovka Gorge, locally associated with Kyrchyn, lies about 40 km east of Cholpon-Ata. It is a roughly 30-35 km valley with the Ak-Suu river running through it. For travellers based on Issyk-Kul's north shore, it is one of the most straightforward mountain detours: from Semyonovka village the road climbs into green pastureland, spruce forest and open viewpoints. Kyrchyn's practical advantage is access. A paved road runs about 15 km into the mountains, following the Chon Ak-Suu valley and passing the Kyrchyn tourist base. Higher up it reaches a jailoo at about 2,010 m and connects toward neighbouring valleys. For a simple sightseeing or picnic visit this is easier than many rougher gorges, but mountain weather changes quickly and the condition of roads beyond the paved section should be checked locally. The gorge pairs naturally with Grigorievka Gorge: together they make a classic duo, two of the largest and prettiest valleys on Issyk-Kul's north shore. Kyrchyn also has a cultural layer: it was used during the World Nomad Games for yurt camps, craft displays and horse-game events.
