Alamedin Gorge sits on the northern side of the Kyrgyz Ala-Too range, roughly 30-35 km south of Bishkek. It is one of the easiest mountain areas near the capital after Ala-Archa: there is no national-park gate or entrance ticket, and the road from the city toward the old sanatorium area and trailhead is paved. The simple half-day or day plan is to walk up the Alamedin River toward Teke-Tor Waterfall. From the parking area it is about 5.7 km on foot, with roughly 370 m of ascent and around 2 hours of walking one way; the trail follows the left bank and has a short steeper section near the waterfall. The broad valley has plenty of picnic slopes, and warm mineral springs sit around the old sanatorium area. Without a car, use a marshrutka or shared taxi to Koy-Tash, then hike, hitchhike or arrange local transport farther into the valley. For a low-friction day out, plan on a taxi, transfer or private car directly to the trailhead.

Safety

The main Teke-Tor walk is fairly easy, but it includes a descent toward the river bridge and a short steeper climb near the waterfall. In winter and shoulder seasons, wear footwear with good grip; farther up the valley weather and trail conditions change quickly. If you come without a car, plan your return transport in advance.

Fees & prices

Unlike Ala-Archa, this is not a national park and there is no entrance ticket: access to the gorge is free. Checked: July 2026.
