Day trips from Bishkek

Seven escapes from Bishkek that fit into a single day or an easy weekend — real mountains, hot springs and an 11th-century minaret, all within Chuy Region. The lineup runs from the alpine gorge of Ala-Archa forty minutes from downtown, through the picnic valleys of Alamedin and Chunkurchak, the thermal water of Issyk-Ata and the trails of Kegeti, to Burana Tower and the red Konorchek canyons. Leave in the morning, sleep in your own bed. The list is built for anyone based in Bishkek: residents, weekenders and travellers starting a longer trip from the capital. Honest notes: upper trails in Ala-Archa carry avalanche risk in winter and spring, the dirt approach to the Chunkurchak waterfall gets rough after rain, and Konorchek is shadeless — skip the summer midday. Ala-Archa, Issyk-Ata and Burana are reachable by public transport; for the rest, a car or taxi is the practical choice.
