Jeti-Oguz is one of the most recognizable places in the Issyk-Kul region: a red gorge about 28-30 km southwest of Karakol. Its name is usually translated as "seven bulls", after the row of rust-red conglomerate cliffs beside the road to the sanatorium. Broken Heart Rock stands a little earlier in the valley, while the best full view of the Seven Bulls is from the short climb on the opposite slope rather than from the roadside. For a first visit, this is a straightforward half-day or day trip from Karakol. Safety
The basic drive to the rocks and resort is easier than many mountain valleys, but the roughly 2,200 m altitude and changeable weather still call for a warm layer, rain shell and time buffer. Beyond the sanatorium the road is rougher, phone signal is weaker and summer storms can build fast. Do not confuse a short red-rock visit with routes deeper into the valley: waterfalls, passes and approaches to Ala-Kul require separate preparation, navigation and a weather check.
